Yoga means “to join.” It means the union of the mind, body and spirit or if you like, the science of joining yourself as an individual with the universe or supreme soul. It leads us to abide in our true nature of glory and splendor. We are looking to be peaceful, joyful, know ourselves and be free. Yoga is all inclusive and helps us to develop our minds and bodies and souls.
It does not matter how bendy you are it means coming to the mat with an open mind ready to face whatever yoga gives you that day. It is turning inward and feeling, enjoying the challenge but knowing when to stop and being content in what your body achieves for you each time to allow yourself to be happy.
Think of the 5 principles of yoga as like a car:
The asanas (postures)are the lubrication,
The pranayama (breathing) is the battery,
The shavasana (relaxation) is the cooling sytem,
The vegetarian diet is the fuel and
The vedanta and dhyana (self-knowledge and meditation) is the driver.
